Rattan Bar Stools
Though some woven patterns of rattan bar stools appear delicate, the truth is that all well-made rattan models stand up to abuse. Sturdy, yet fluid and graceful, they lend a casual, yet sophisticated feel to any setting.
Rattan
Rattan is a palm that grows wild in Southeast Asia. It has tall, jointed reeds that are very strong on their own; but when you weave together strands of rattan—or whole reeds—you get extremely durable results.
Styles
Rattan bar stools really are showpieces of casual, yet sophisticated style. Much of the intricate weaving on a rattan stool is in the back of the chair. You can find designs that are lacy and feminine, or very solid and simple. Rattan styles come in opaque white and whitewashed shades and in varying shades of pale to dark brown. The rattan should be faintly lustrous and smooth to the touch.
Outdoor and Indoor Use
One of the advantages of durable rattan stools is that they easily adapt to outdoor use, especially if your climate is moist and warm. The moisture in the outdoor air will prevent the rattan from splitting or cracking over time. If your rattan furniture is for use indoors, or if your climate is dry, periodically wipe down the rattan with a moist cloth to keep the fibers supple.
Cushions
Rattan bar stools can be fitted with cushions in a wide variety of patterns and materials, including leather, fabric, and vinyl. Leather cushions make a rattan bar stool even more sophisticated, and fabrics are available in many designs and colors to meet any discriminating tastes. Always look for leather coverings that are stain and moisture resistant. Fabric coverings should at least be stain resistant, and moisture resistant if you plan to use your them outside. Vinyl coverings are the easiest to clean—just wipe with a damp cloth.
Strongly built, rattan bar stools express your perfectly blended sense of style with smart practicality. |
